View Transitions API

Creating smoother experiences between pages and interface states.

What are View Transitions?

The View Transitions API is a browser Application Programming Interface for creating animated transitions between different states of a document and, in supporting browsers, between separate documents. Instead of a change simply appearing, the browser can capture the old and new views and animate between them.

Smoother Changes

Transitions can visually connect one interface state to the next, making changes easier to follow.

CSS + JavaScript

Same-document transitions can be started with JavaScript and styled with CSS. Cross-document transitions can be enabled primarily through CSS.

Progressive Enhancement

A site can still work when the API is unavailable. The transition is an enhancement rather than a requirement for navigation or content.
